A neighbourhood built in two phases

Snoqualmie Ridge grew on land the City of Snoqualmie annexed in the mid-1990s, with a second phase added in 2004. Almost every house went up during those build-outs, so a street’s kitchens tend to share an age, a builder’s specification and often the same suite: a range or rangetop, a wall oven, a matching hood. When one of those starts to fail, its neighbours are usually not far behind, and a visit that reads all three costs less than three visits.

What the fit-out changes

Kitchens specified at construction were drawn around their appliances, which is good for the look and harder on the repair. A wall oven set tight into its cabinet run shows cutout trouble as heat marks on the face above it. A hood liner inside a built-up enclosure can rattle against it once the blower wears. A duct that climbs through a cold roof space can let cold air fall back into the kitchen when the hood is off; Wolf’s ventilation guide says cold-weather installations may need an extra backdraft damper for exactly that.

Before any part is quoted we measure the pieces of the installation that bear on the fault: the hood height against Wolf’s 30 to 36 inches for a pro hood, the duct against its 50-foot guideline, the circuit the oven or range sits on.
