Altitude is not the culprit

Up a hillside it is tempting to blame the height for a poor flame. For a Wolf dual-fuel range the installation guide settles it: the range works without adjustment up to 10,250 feet on natural gas and 8,600 feet on propane (LP). The mountain’s own summit, at 3,004 feet, sits far below either figure, so a poor flame in a hillside kitchen has another cause. Wolf’s flame-quality notes list the likelier ones: a burner that is dirty or not assembled correctly, a pot or pan too big for it, the wrong supply gas, or a supply that is short on pressure. With propane, Wolf adds, some orange tipping at the flame is normal.

Where the house runs on propane, the rating plate should say so. If it names natural gas instead, that mismatch comes before any repair, and it is a job for a gas fitter.

When the lights come back on

After an outage, a current Wolf dual-fuel range loses the time. Wolf’s use and care guide says the clock has to be set again, unless the range is connected to Wi-Fi, in which case it sets itself. The control lock, if you use one, also needs resetting. An unset clock after a cut is expected, not a fault.

A panel that stays dark once the power is back, with the range’s breaker on, is another matter, and worth a visit rather than another reset.

Steep drives and heavy ranges

If a range has to come out of its opening to be worked on, it rolls out on its rear casters and must never be lifted by the door handle. When it goes back, Wolf’s installation guide requires the anti-tip bracket to be engaged. Tell us about the drive when you book, so the visit can be planned around it: how steep it is, whether it is gravel or paved, and where a vehicle can stop without blocking a neighbour.
