Control Panel Dark After an Outage

Short answer

A Wolf oven whose panel stays black once the power is back is asleep, cut off at its breaker, or short of part of its 240-volt supply; the control itself comes after all three. Asleep, off, or starved

The storm has passed, the lights are back, and the oven is a black slab in the cabinet run. Work out which of three states it is in. Asleep: the current dual-fuel range has a standby setting that switches its clock off, and a clock face that can be set to blank, so a dark screen may be a choice somebody made. Off: the breaker feeding the oven did not return with the rest of the house. Starved: a 240-volt oven draws on two supply legs through a two-pole breaker, and power that comes back on only one of them can leave the display dead while the rest of the house seems fine.

Where the supply comes in

A dual-fuel range gets a circuit serving nothing else under Wolf’s installation guide, rated 240/208 volts, with the supply roughed in at a marked zone low at the back of the opening. A wall oven’s connection sits wherever its own guide places it, and reaching it can mean easing the oven forward out of its cutout, which is our job. In a Montreux or Squak Mountain kitchen rebuilt around the oven, that connection is where the visit starts: both legs measured, the terminals checked for heat marks, and only then the control’s own power supply.

Before you book

Try to wake it. On Wolf's current dual-fuel range the touchscreen opens when you press the flame symbol; on a wall oven, touch the display once and watch for any glow.

Find the oven's breaker in the house panel. A tripped handle often rests between on and off, so push it hard to off before pushing it back on.

If the handle was already on, switch it off for twenty seconds and on again, the reset Wolf's dual-fuel guide gives for a panel that has stopped answering, and watch the display as power returns.

Leave the oven switched off at the breaker until the visit, or keep trying it?

Leave it off if one reset did not bring the panel back. With the breaker off, nothing inside the oven is live while it waits, which is the sensible way to leave a fault nobody can see yet.
