Short answer

A Wolf range that rocks when a pot moves, or stands forward of the counter, is not sitting on its legs and casters as installed. Look to an anti-tip bolt that missed its bracket when the range last came out, legs set for an old floor, or a supply box holding it off the wall. What you are seeing

The range gives a small lurch when a heavy pot slides across the grates or the oven door drops open. Or it stands a finger’s width proud of the cabinets, its top a touch high or low against the counter, the door edge not quite parallel to the drawers beside it.

How the range is meant to sit

Wolf’s dual-fuel installation guide has the installer set the range’s height at its front legs and rear casters before sliding it home, where an anti-tip bolt engages a bracket fixed to the wall or floor. The gas and electrical supplies sit in a zone low on the back wall so the range can go fully back.

A remodel can disturb all three. New flooring changes the height the legs were set for. A relocated gas line or outlet can land outside the zone. And whenever the range comes out, the bolt has to find its bracket again on the way back.

Before you book

Sight along the front from the end of the counter: how far does the range stand forward of the cabinet faces, and is its top higher or lower than the counter?

Has the range been pulled out since it went in, for a floor, a clean behind it or a repair? Wolf says the anti-tip device must be re-engaged every time it is moved.

Until it has been checked, keep weight off the open oven door, keep children away from the range, and do not try to push it back or pull it out yourself.

Is a range that rocks actually dangerous?

It can be. Wolf's own warning is blunt: a child or adult can tip this appliance, and the anti-tip device must be installed and engaged. A rocking range may only need levelling, but until the bolt is confirmed in its bracket, keep weight off the open door and keep children away.

Can you get it back flush with the counter?
